W.A91points「 Assembled from fourteen tiny parcels, the oldest planted in 1942 and the youngest debuting this vintage, Forey's 2005 Vosne-Romanee displays a gorgeous nose of black cherry, cumin, iris, rowan berry, and sea spray. On the palate, sappy, bright, spice-tinged black cherry fruit makes for a lively impression, while creaminess of texture enhances the sense of richness. Polished and refined in finish, this is one of those 2005's that shows how good a village wine can be. I would plan to enjoy this between 3-7 years of age. At the time of my visit, Regis Forey had only recently (with one exception noted below) bottled his 2005's-unfiltered, and with very low levels of sulfur. These are a profoundly-satisfying, and ageworthy group of wines, but not at all showy. Forey was not timid with extraction when it came to this vintage; on the other hand he was one of several growers who told me he had recently lightened up on the use of new wood, and one of several to employ a significant number of 500 liter (double barrique) barrels to diminish the stave surface to wine volume ratio and enhance freshness.
